Kundalini Yoga

Yogi Bhajan, an Indian man, brought Kundalini Yoga to the West in the 60s. Until that time it had been kept a secret because of it’s powerful transformative ability. Kundalini Yoga is a combination of many different types of yogas. It is known as the Mother of all Yoga as it’s roots are found in the earliest recording of any yoga. It incorporates mantra (chanting), pranayam (breathing exercises), relaxation, meditation and physical exercises which are not only about flexibility but about building stamina and strength as well. Each class consists of tuning in (chanting a mantra), a pranayam (breathing exercise) or/and one or two kriyas (sets of exercises), a laying down relaxation, a meditation and lastly tuning out (chanting).

Kundalini yoga focuses on you. It is about your body, your mind, your soul. It is a wonderful way to connect to the inner you. This is why we recommend you close your eyes while doing the exercises. It is to avoid distraction from the outside and to be completely with yourself.

It is recommended that you wear white clothing during a Kundalini Yoga class and also covering your head is recommended as these help purify your energy and to stay connected to yourself but it is by no means a must. Please wear whatever you feel most comfortable wearing. Kundalini yoga is about you and you must do what is right for you!
